More than 160 kilograms of cocaine originating from Ecuador were seized by the Thessaloniki Narcotics Prosecution at the city’s port.

The narcotic was placed in two containers containing a legal cargo of bananas.

According to information, the illegal cargo is allegedly connected to the quantity of 105 kilos seized last month in Thessaloniki.

For that case, 10 people were arrested and among them, a 68-year-old doctor who had previously been employed by the prosecuting authorities of Northern Greece for fuel and cigarette smuggling cases.

Nine of the ten arrested – members of an international cocaine trafficking ring – have already been sent to prison, including the 68-year-old who is alleged to be the “mastermind” of the case.

For the disclosure of the new load of cocaine, the General Affairs Department of the Thessaloniki Narcotics Prosecution had previously collaborated with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The cocaine was destined for a storefront company in North Macedonia, just like the cargo seized in May.
