The roles and participation of the first six defendants in the execution of his murder Alki Kampanou explained the prosecutor during her marathon trial which continued for the 2nd day at the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki. The process is expected to continue tomorrow Friday, when it will refer to the remaining six and formulate its final proposal on guilt, which, however, it has already “shown” for all the persons involved.

Codifying her conclusions for the first six defendants, prosecutor Kyriaki Kliaba stated the following:

He called the 1st accused the “mastermind”, stressing that he retained the role of director in the murderous attack. “He would determine the positions of his ‘soldiers’. His purpose was not to attack, he had the high supervision, to restrain any of the victims who would escape. He had a leadership and regulatory role,” he said.

The “parody” confession

He characterized the confession of the 2nd accused as “a travesty” that he managed the fatal blow to the right thigh of ‘Alkis which caused the femoral artery to be eaten away. “There is no such thing as a fatal blow,” clarified the prosecutor, while regarding the specific man’s attitude, she said: “He chose to become an atoning victim. He didn’t want the truth to shine, and that’s worse than a confession,” he said. He accused him that with the “fabricated” confession he played with the intelligence of the court trying to prove his lie and shake off the responsibilities of the others. “But he forgot the remaining 40 blows to ‘Alkis and his best friend. Someone else hit with a knife not himself as he tried to convince,” he said.

For the 3rd accused he pointed out that he was in the “battle field” for at least 45 seconds and that he was not a “spectator”. “He participated with his hammer and mercilessly beat anyone he found in front of him” were the words of the prosecutor.

The budding vice-captain

For the 4th defendant who had initially escaped to Albania and was then handed over to the Greek prosecuting authorities, the prosecutor emphasized that he had an important role in the commission of the crime: not as a simple good “soldier” – as she mentioned – but as a “budding deputy leader”, because he is said to have been the person who on the fateful night gathered the persons involved in the “Gate 4” fan club to ensure numerical superiority in the face of the murderous attack. For his attitude in court, Ms. Kliaba noted that his apology was based on “lies” and “imagination”. “He thought he could convince us that he was just a spectator in the drama,” he said, pointing out that the man hit both Alki and his friend.

“He stayed for 25 seconds at the scene of the attack, time capable of hitting Alkis and his friend with the folding glove,” the prosecutor said of the 5th defendant and added “He intended to “run away” after the crime was committed. He wasn’t a “spectator” either, he was among those who went to kill.”

He placed the 6th defendant outside the “battle field”, but emphasized that his assistance was decisive for the outcome. “He grabs the iron pipe from the trunk, wanting to contribute his own “share” to the attack, but he couldn’t get there. He was ready for the attack” emphasized the public prosecutor.

“They took advantage of Alki’s blood to tell us that they were scared”

Looking back at all the apologies, she emphasized that she had the need to hear and learn the truth. “I didn’t see her, but I didn’t hear her either,” he said and characterized as false and pretentious what the defendants apologized for. “They wanted to convince us that Alkis accidentally lost his life…” he said and at another point he commented: “They took advantage of Alkis’ blood to tell us that they froze and were scared […] no one was hurt by what they saw […] they showed no repentance.”

The spikes against medical examiners – technical advisors

Earlier, Ms. Kliaba defended the conclusion of medical examiner Leda Kovatsis, saying that her scientific conclusions are not amenable to any dispute, even though – as he said – he was “criticized” by the defenders of the 12 accused “as if he was referring to speculations and arbitrary conclusions”.

The prosecutor launched her arrows against the three medical examiners – technical consultants who testified as defense witnesses and accused them of “contradictions and an attempt to mislead the court”. “Their conclusions and judgments are far from our case. They testified what was convenient for the accused […] They fell into serious errors. They forgot their science,” he said characteristically.
