The Deputy Prime Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis, today welcomed the Prime Minister of China, Mr. Li Qiang, who will remain in our country for a few hours as part of his trip to Brazil for the BRICS team.

During the visit, a meeting was held at the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights (Castello). The debate has focused on the progress that has been made in bilateral relations since 2006 and the signing of the integrated strategic partnership.

The Chinese prime minister referred to various aspects of these relations, with the main appearance of COSCO’s investment in the port of Piraeus and the expansion of the cooperation between the two sides, especially in the field of tourism and cultural exchanges. Mr Hatzidakis, for his part, noted the need for further cooperation to expand Greek exports to China and noted Greece’s interest in cooperation with China always under the rules set by the EU.

The Deputy Prime Minister said: “Greece and China, as two of the oldest cultures, have developed a stable cooperation relationship. This relationship will proceed with respect for Greece’s obligations to the EU and the Atlantic Alliance. Of particular interest to Greece will be to strengthen the cooperation for the promotion of Greek exports to China, as well as the strengthening of cultural exchanges and tourism. “
