The Regional Governor of Attica Giorgos Patoulis expressed his condolences for the loss of the great composer Yiannis Markopoulos.
“Our country is saying goodbye to a great creator, a man who faithfully served the culture and history of our country throughout his life. With his creative and artistic abilities he highlighted the deep roots of music with society, culture and the struggles of the Greek people. The loss of Yiannis Markopoulos is a strong blow for Greece, our culture, his family, but also all those who were blessed to know him and to have worked with him. As the mayor of Amarousi, I had the honor to accept the position of Artistic Director of the Art and Culture Center of the Municipality of Amarousi, states the Regional Governor of Attica Giorgos Patoulis in his statement.
“We say goodbye to our Giannis, the friend, the fellow human being, the great charismatic creator whose contribution the arts and culture in our country went higher. His compositions and songs marked an entire generation and are a legacy for future generations,” he added.
“I express my deep sorrow and my sincere condolences to his family,” concluded Mr. Patoulis.
