In less than 24 hours, on June 10 and 11, organ donation took place from two deceased donors who were hospitalized in the ICUs of the “I Sotiria” hospital.

The families of the donors, a 54-year-old and a 65-year-old man, after being informed by the doctors, agreed to the donation, offering hope to more than 10 patients. Following their consent, the Hellenic Transplantation Organization (HTO) was informed on Friday morning and the procedures for evaluating the suitability of the organs for transplantation and organizing the surgeries immediately began.

To carry out the two surgeries, transplant teams from Evangelismos, Hippocrates of Thessaloniki, Onassio Cardiac Surgery Center, Palermo, Italy and from “Gennimatas” came to “The Salvation” Hospital.

This large operation could not have developed successfully without the valuable contribution and cooperation of the medical and nursing staff of the ICUs and the operating rooms of the hospital, says the EOM, who warmly thanks the families of the two donors, hoping that their act will offers a modicum of meaning to their loss.
