Visit to East Attica made today by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournasin the context of a series of meetings with Fire Service commanders with the aim of maintaining a high degree of operational preparedness of the Fire Brigade throughout the fire season.

Mr. Tournas presided over a meeting at the Eastern Attica Fire Services administration, which was attended by the coordinator of Attica operations, Lt. Gen. Panagiotis Niafas, the commander PE.PY.D. Attica, lieutenant general Dimitrios Patrakis, the commander DI.PY.Y. of Eastern Attica, archpyrarch Spyridon Papastathis, the commander P.Y. K/A Eleftherios Venizelos, chief fire chief Georgios Karamanlis, as well as the commanders of the Fire Services of Markopoulos, Koropi, Lavrio and Nea Makri.

The issue of optimal management of the Corps’ resources and means, both in the fields of prevention and preparation and readiness, as well as in that of immediate intervention in emergency situations based on strategic and operational planning, but also in particular issues related to fire protection, were put in the focus. of the area. Emphasis was also placed on personnel safety, as well as the importance of coordination and cooperation with all agencies involved in fire protection and forest firefighting in order to ensure maximum effectiveness.

After the end of the meeting, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection successively visited the facilities of the Markopoulos, Lavrio and Koropio Fire Services, where he had the opportunity to talk with fire department officials and to thank the women and men of the Corps who self-sacrificingly and Self-sacrifice are always at the forefront to carry out their mission to protect life, property and the natural environment. A mission that – as the minister noted – is becoming increasingly difficult amid the adverse conditions created by the climate crisis, which is why it requires everyone’s support.

Referring specifically to the current fire season, Mr. Tournas said that rainy weather should not create complacency. “The mechanism remains fully prepared and alert, on the basis of the timely and thorough preparation that has preceded, with the aim of dealing with immediacy, adequacy and efficiency any incidents of forest fires that arise throughout the fire fighting season until its end on 31 October” underlined.
