For July 7 adjourned, at Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Eastern Crete the trial in the second degree of the case of the murder of the 60-year-old cardiologist Christodoulos Kalantzakis, from Sitia.

The couple of ex-lovers, the 43-year-old now widow and her 42-year-old Bulgarian policeman friend, sat once again on the bench of the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal, who were sentenced to life imprisonment at first instance.
It should be noted that while they were in the same courtroom, the two now appear to have no communication with each other.

It is recalled that the 43 year old Bulgarian, the mother of a little boy, who is being raised by his grandmother, insists on her innocence, claiming that she knew nothing of her lover’s intentions. However, regular judges and juries at first instance found her guilty of moral complicity in her husband’s murder.

On hearing the verdict the young widow… collapsed. She began to sob, realizing that she would be going back to prison, with a life sentence on her back and a small child in tow. Now he hopes that in the appellate court he will have a different criminal treatment.

The former lover on the other hand when he was informed of the court’s verdict by the interpreter he remained impassive. He looked completely prepared. After all, in his apology he had taken sole responsibility for the murder, insisting that his girlfriend knew nothing.

Based on the documents presented to the trial court, from 2004 until his arrest he held the position of spy in the Anti-Crime Group, an agency belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria.
From 2006 to 2017 he was awarded every year by the superior Authority for his work and services, while he has also been honored by the General Directorate of Criminology Police of the Kingdom of Spain.
