The Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees requests that the Strep Test be performed on more sick children who come to the emergency room to be added to the EODY instructions
An announcement on the occasion of the recent tragic death of a 7-year-old child from streptococcus was issued by POEDI, which requests to add to the instructions of the EODY that a Strep Test should be performed on more sick children who come to the emergency room.
According to the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees, 45 children have so far come to Naoussa Hospital for a Strep Test – 32 children from outside the 7-year-old’s school environment and 13 children from the unfortunate boy’s school
7 positive children were found, of which 5 were asymptomatic and 2 with symptoms – and all are receiving treatment. Of the 32 children outside the school environment, 5 were found positive, of which 3 were asymptomatic and 2 with symptoms.
Of the 13 children in the school environment, two children were found positive asymptomatic.
POEDIN’s announcement in detail
“After the tragic death of the 7-year-old, Naoussa Hospital successfully managed the detection of streptococcus in children who came to the Hospital. We repeat that it has 5 excellent pediatricians.
So far, 45 children have come for a Strep Test.
7 positive children were found, of which 5 were asymptomatic and 2 with symptoms. All seven positive children are receiving treatment. The two children with symptoms are improving.
The 32 children examined are outside the school environment of the 7-year-old and the 13 children within the school environment. Of the 32 children outside the school environment, 5 were found positive, of which 3 were asymptomatic and 2 with symptoms.
Of the 13 children in the school environment, two children were found positive asymptomatic.
But Naoussa is a small society.
Another 9-year-old child, a relative of the 7-year-old, is being treated at the Gennimatas hospital, whose health has improved.
At the end of March, an 18-month-old child died at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital from streptococcus. He was admitted with mild symptoms of gastroenteritis as a precaution and the next day he ended up in the ICU with strep. The Children’s Hospital and ICU also has experienced, excellent pediatricians.
We have 6 deaths from strep within the year 2023.
So should it be added to the EODY instructions that more sick children who come to hospital emergency rooms should undergo a Strep Test?
It’s a cheap and painless test that saves lives.”
