At the same time, they expressed their opposition to the policies of the EU, since, as they emphasize, they strengthen the circuits of slave traders but at the same time make people a tool.
Lanterns in memory of the victims of the deadly shipwreck off Pylos were let fly into the sky by demonstrators during a protest in the center of Thessaloniki.
The demonstrators marched on Thursday afternoon in order to protest the fact that the Mediterranean has turned – as they said – into a cemetery of innocent souls, but also against the practices that push these people to leave their homelands.
At the same time, they expressed their opposition to the policies of the EU, since, as they emphasize, they strengthen the circuits of slave traders but at the same time make people a tool.
“All governments that follow the policy of intense repression with Frontex, visible and invisible fences, confinement in modern concentration camps, deportations and inadmissible lists of so-called “safe” countries are complicit in this crime. On their own responsibility, they have turned the sea of our country into a liquid graveyard of thousands”, said a related announcement regarding the mobilization.
Workers’ unions, student associations, pensioners’ unions and city bodies participated in the mobilization.
The march started from the Statue of Venizelos, where earlier the people gathered, moved to the center of the city and ended on Nikis Avenue, at the height of Aristotelous Square.
There the demonstrators let lanterns fly into the sky, in memory of the people who lost their lives in the deadly shipwreck of Pylos.
