Three foreign traffickers, who on as many different occasions were found promoting irregular immigrants into the country, were arrested yesterday and today in areas of Evros by police officers of the Alexandroupolis Police Department.
Specifically, as stated in today’s relevant police announcement, in the first case, police officers of the Border Guard Department of Goods arrested a smuggler yesterday morning, Friday, June 16, on the Alexandroupoli-Komotini National Highway, as they spotted him driving an ICHE car and transporting four immigrants illegally inside the country.
The driver-trafficker, who lacks a driver’s license, initially did not comply with a police signal and sped off, then stopped the vehicle and tried to escape on foot without success, resisting arrest. Meanwhile, it was established that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen on June 13 to the Attica police department.
In the second case, yesterday morning, in a settlement of Evros, police officers of the Border Guard Department of Soufli with the assistance of FRONTEX officials arrested the second smuggler, after it was found that driving an ICHE car, lacking a driver’s license, he illegally transported seven immigrants inland. It is emphasized that this driver-trafficker initially did not comply with a signal from the police and developed speed, while he then stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, but was stopped and arrested.
In the third case, today, Saturday June 17, in the early hours of the morning, on the Ormeni-Ardani National Road, policemen of the Soufli Border Guard Department arrested a smuggler, because they spotted him driving an ICHE car and illegally transporting five immigrants into the country.
It is noted that the three vehicles and mobile phones found in the possession of the above-mentioned arrested persons were confiscated, who were taken to the Alexandroupoli First Instance Prosecutor, with the preliminary investigation for all three cases being carried out by the Border Guard Departments of Feron and Soufli.
