A small decrease in the viral load below 20% is evident from the analysis of wastewater in Attica, as the professor of Analytical Chemistry of EKPA, Nikos Thomaidis, told SKAI and the show “Simera”, however the viral load remains at high levels.
“The analysis of Athens’ sewage shows a small recession below 20% this week. This is obviously not related to the reduction we see in clinical surveillance and this is due to the fact that in wastewater we see the total viral load that exists in the community, ie the asymptomatic ones that usually escape clinical surveillance. “There is more dispersion, but there is a recession and in the next 2-3 weeks, at the end of January or the first week of February, we will have a serious de-escalation,” he said.
At the same time, he stressed that the prevalence of Omicron reaches 95% and underlined that the booster dose protects universally as far as Delta, but also 80% of those who are sick with Omicron.
For his part, the professor of Pharmacology at Democritus University, Evangelos Manolopoulos pointed out that in the spring we will be much better epidemiologically, provided that there is nothing else that will make things worse
Regarding natural immunity, he stressed that the immunity provided by natural disease lasts less and is less intense than vaccine immunity, stressing that “to acquire natural immunity you take the risk of becoming seriously ill.”
Regarding the antiviral pills, Mr. Manolopoulos stated that the administration of the Merck pill is starting, which, however, has not yet been approved by Coreper, but a positive opinion.
“Our desire is to see the Pfizer pill that is most effective. “But for some months it will not be possible for everyone to get it, because it is expensive, of the order of 500-600 euros”, he concluded.
