The Ministries of Digital Governance, Infrastructure and Transport and the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) proceeded to simplify and fully digitize the vehicle registration process through Gov.gr, establishing the single digital vehicle registration certificate.

The new digital service has significant added value in the fields of economy and entrepreneurship. It is noted that almost 290,000 vehicles were registered in 2022 alone, and until today the competent services for the management of vehicles printed and circulated more than 800,000 documents per year.

It is yet another important action implemented under the “umbrella” of the National Program for the Simplification of Procedures (EPAD) and within the framework of the program agreement signed in January 2020 by the Ministries of Digital Governance and Infrastructure and Transport. An agreement that in the previous four years, through the simplification and digitization of a series of important procedures, made the lives of 900,000 citizens easier and significantly reduced the bureaucratic inconvenience for them, as well as for the relevant services.

Among other things, 600,000 citizens have received a temporary driving license within minutes, 45,000 citizens have renewed their driving license and 55,000 citizens have bought and sold a vehicle.

The single digital vehicle registration certificate was implemented by the General Secretariat of Digital Governance and Process Simplification in collaboration with the Independent Public Revenue Authority and concerns horizontally all categories of vehicles (new and used) imported into our country. It puts an end to a time-consuming process, simultaneously saving resources and time for businesses, citizens, customs authorities, but also the Transport and Communications Directorates of the Regions.

The new digital vehicle registration process is transparent in its entirety as it provides a systematic sequence of checks, ensuring the communication of different systems without human intervention and providing graded access of all parties involved to the necessary data.

In addition, it automatically checks compliance with the prerequisites and restrictions (e.g. for vehicles with multiple children or the disabled), while it also eliminates the need to present four supporting documents to the Transport and Communications Directorates of the Regions.

Now, interested parties will not need to provide registration certificate, certificate of conformity, vehicle type approval, as well as sales invoices.

The process is simple and user-friendly. Interested parties, i.e. importers, agents and handling companies, enter Gov.gr by selecting the “Property and Taxation” category, then the “Vehicles” subcategory and then “Vehicle Classification” and have the option at any stage of the process to receive and print the Digital Vehicle Registration Certificate, which is issued in the form of a document of the Unified Digital Portal Gov.gr and carries a unique verification identifier.

With the Digital Certificate of Classification they can perform all the necessary actions until its finalization and submission to the competent services for the granting of the license and license plates.
