At a time when the trial for the “blind” fan attack that claimed the life of Alkis Kampanos is in the closing stages, one of the 12 defendants in this highly acclaimed case was asked to apologize to an investigator for his involvement in another fan incident which it had preceded in time.
This is the 24-year-old, the 6th defendant, whose name is included – along with 10 other people – in the case file for an episode that occurred in September 2019, i.e. 2.5 years before the murderous attack against 19-year-old ‘Alkis.
The specific episode happened at the TEFAA stadium in Thermi Thessaloniki, where a friendly match was being played between K-17 teams and between those of Olympiakos Thessaloniki (academy of the “red and whites”).
According to what was reported at the time, a large group of people had entered the stadium, interrupting the game, with the attackers removing the shirts from the young Olympiakos football players and writing slogans against the “red and whites”. An injury was reported to the manager of the Olympiacos academy, his son and a football player.
This was followed by an investigation by the Sports Violence Sub-Directorate of Thessaloniki during which the phone privacy of dozens of suspects was removed based on the activation of mobile phone antennas in the area. In the end, eleven people were charged with, among other things, bodily harm and fan-motivated attack as well as robbery.
One after the other they were called to apologize to the Thessaloniki investigator and today it was the turn of the 24-year-old, also accused in the case of the murder of Alkis Kampanos, to cross the threshold of the investigator. For the Thermi episode, the 24-year-old was released without restrictive conditions, with him denying any involvement in the controversial incident, stressing that no one recognized or named him.
