The last farewell will be said today by relatives and friends to the great Greek painter, Aleko Fasiano, who passed away on Sunday night at the age of 87.

His funeral will be held at 14:00 at Papagou Cemetery.

The Greek-French director Costas Gavras paid tribute to his friend Aleko Fasianos, “an exemplary painter-philosopher”, with whom he liked to eat sea urchins on a pristine beach in Greece. In a letter to Agence France-Presse, the director, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in February, hailed “the painter’s unique and so personal work, often referred to as the” Greek Picasso “or Matisse of modern times. “Our fellow citizen Alekos Fasianos, one of the greatest contemporary Greek painters, passed away, leaving behind a great heritage and a great legacy”, it is mentioned in a statement of the municipality of Papagou-Holargos. Alekos Fasianos had created the logos of the Papagou-Holargos Festival and the Municipal Organization of Culture, Sports and Environment and the municipality of Papagou-Holargos had honored him with the “Pericles Award” in 2019. In his honor in 2021, the hall that hosts Papagou-Cholargos Gallery at the City Hall, was named after a proposal by Mayor Elias Apostolopoulos.
