THE expanding the skills of employees is imperative in a constantly changing and demanding labor market, regardless of industry and subject. A broader scope of knowledge is required for communication, collaboration, problem solving, and learning itself.

The E-Learning of the University of Athens, in its 22 years of operation, has developed research group with headed by Om. Panagiotis Petrakis, Professor of Economics of the Greek Academy of Scienceswhich deals with issues of development of the production structure of the Greek economy, linking the labor market with training, professional skills etc. His team of R&D department of E-Learning (research and development of new programs) identifies in time the needs of the new era and the labor market and provides the relevant programs with the aim of preventing any skill gaps, but also to the upcoming changes in the work structure are assisted. The model used is the Global Economic Model by Oxford Economics and based on the structure of employment in our country, as well as the related knowledge requirements, the corresponding employment image in 2027 is projected, in order to determine a new knowledge map that will respond to the new production structure. The methodology used provides a forecast for the evolution and level of employment in our country until 2027 by profession (for 124 total occupations) and by sector of economic activity (for a total of 64 branches). This particular analysis reveals changes in business activities, with consequent changes in human capital requirements. For example, a decrease in the importance of machinery management is expected, while there will be increase in communication, administration, management or customer service skills, as well as personal service.

Indicatively, they are listed below programs that have emerged as a result of this study and cover important pillars (environment, IT-telecommunications, economy, organization & management of organizations, marketing, educational sciences, management of cultural-tourism wealth)on which the Greek economy and society will be supported in the coming years, but also skills programswhich the modern professional in the digital age should have.
