Barrage of controls on the island after the publication of the working conditions in the specific company – What the president of the hotel employees of Rhodes told SKAI
Today they are expected to be submitted to prosecutor of RoHere are some details about the incident with the beach bar waiter, who almost swims to serve customers on a marine platform, a structure that, according to the Coast Guard, is illegal.
Speaking to and on the “Today” show, the president of the island’s hotel workers, Ath. Stamoulis, said that until now no checks had been carried out, leaving room for threats and intimidation. “The checks will be accompanied by a prosecutor and the coast guard,” he noted.
However, the employees in this particular company they declare that they have no problem with the employer, nor with the working conditions. His colleagues issued a statement stressing that the hype that has been caused does not correspond to reality.
“We think it was extreme what happened and we felt it didn’t represent us. We know who the competent authorities are so we can stand up if necessary. What came out in the last 24 hours as a climate that prevails in our work, is not true in any case and we categorically state that our working conditions are not “medieval” conditions, nor are we “torture, as it was said”, they emphasized.
The Coast Guard, after an inspection, imposed a high administrative fine for illegal occupation of maritime space in relation to the wooden platforms on which the customers’ sunbeds had been placed. According to information from ERT, similar violations in the same company were also found in controls carried out on May 16 and June 21. Cases were filed after the imposition of administrative fines, with the second being doubled in size.
“The labor inspectorate did a thorough check on the company and absolutely no violation was found, the specific image we saw was done with the consent of the employee who did it on his own initiative. I will ask to meet with the workers in charge of their association to see if we need to proceed with some legislative initiative,” stressed Adonis Georgiadis.
Both the waiter and the owner of the business they state that there is nothing to blame and as has been said, this results in generous tipping of the workers.
Meanwhile, another complaint reached the labor center of Rhodes. A waiter was allegedly beaten by thugs because he refused to leave the business where he worked and go to another employer.
