The temperature is expected to reach 38°C in Athens and Larissa – A slight drop from Saturday
High temperatures will prevail in the country until Friday, July 7, according to the latest forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr.
The temperature is expected to reach 37-38°C in places, both in continental and island areas.
Specifically, on Friday July 7, temperature conditions of category 2 (extremely high temperatures) are expected for the cities of Athens and Larissa. In other words, health risks due to extremely high temperatures are foreseen and the necessary precautions and measures must be taken.
The slight strengthening of the melt on Saturday 8 July will help to drop maximum temperatures by 1 to 2°C.
The METEO unit of the National Observatory of Athens, in collaboration with the scientific committee of the Arsht-Rock Resilience Center of the Atlantic Council, operationally categorizes days with high temperatures for six major Greek cities (Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Ioannina, Patras, Heraklion) . The categorization system is based on an algorithm for predicting the impact of upcoming days with high temperatures on the health of residents of the six cities. The algorithm takes into account, in addition to temperature, other parameters that affect human thermal sensation, such as humidity and wind. The classification includes four classification categories from category O (high temperatures) to category 3 (extreme temperatures).
The categorization is updated daily and the relevant map for the six cities is given at the link https://meteo.gr/heatwave.cfm.
