The positive evaluations for improving the image of the Rule of Law in our country, recorded in the European Commission’s annual report, were referred to by the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, in a statement, noting the areas where, according to the report, Greece has achieved significant positive results .
At the same time, the new Minister of Justice emphasizes, regarding the reports on Greece in the report, that the progress in the adjudication of corruption cases, the strengthening of the control of asset declarations, but also the improvement of the legislation to strengthen the transparency in the ownership regime of the Media.
Special mention, which the minister also notes, is made by the report on the active role of parliament, independent authorities and others in matters of monitoring and use of illegal software.
Mr. Floridis, on the occasion of the European Commission’s report, emphatically notes that the government has a reform plan for immediate changes in justice and the judicial system, such as taking measures for the so-called judicial “Kallicratis”, i.e. changes in the layout of the courts throughout the territory, as well as changes in the evaluation of the judiciary.
In particular, Floridis’ statement is as follows:
“Specifically, the Report makes positive references to the increase in resources in the area of ​​Justice, the progress made in the adjudication of bribery cases, the legislative strengthening of the system and the process of checking asset declarations and the institutionalization of the protection of public interest witnesses. The Report also highlights the improvement of legislation to strengthen the transparency of the ownership status of the Media, the establishment of a special working group for the safety of journalists and finally the active role of the Parliament and the Independent Authorities in the investigation of connection issues and illegal surveillance software »
At the same time, the Minister expresses the will of the Government to face the challenges formulated by the Report, with the main priority being the acceleration of the administration of Justice. This is already being implemented with reforms and investments in the Judiciary within the framework of the “Greece 2.0″ project, with Electronic Government, the New Judicial Charter of the Country and the training, evaluation and strengthening of the human resources of the Judiciary”.
