The police officers of the Serres Security Directorate arrested a man, of Bulgarian origin, for telephone scams against citizens in Serres.

As it emerged from the investigation, the 54-year-old man is involved in a ring, in which his accomplices, pretending to be doctors, call citizens and claim that their relatives were seriously injured in a traffic accident, asking for large sums of money allegedly to undergo surgery. 6 cases of fraud and attempted fraud against citizens in Serres were solved. As it was established, with the above method, on July 7, they defrauded a woman in Serres, from whom they extracted the sum of 10,000 euros.

The money was allegedly received by the arrested person, who was spotted on July 8 in the early hours of the morning in cooperation with police officers of the Passport Control Department of Promahona, at the moment he tried to leave the country. The sum of 9,950 euros was found and confiscated in his possession, which was attributed to the victim and a mobile phone.

The investigation established that on June 17, they defrauded another woman in Serres, from whom they demanded an amount of 40,000 euros and managed to extract 9,000 euros from her. In addition, in the last period of time they allegedly committed 4 more fraud attempts against citizens in Serres, without managing to extract money.

The investigation by the police continues both for the identification of the details of his unknown accomplices and for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts.

The arrested person, with the case filed against him, will be taken to the public prosecutor of Serres.
