Today begins the pioneering collaboration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the American Harvard University, through the School of Public Health “Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health”.
The object of the cooperation is the modern Immigration and Refugee Studies and the goal is the development of joint actions and programs that will cover legal, political, medical and communication dimensions, a cooperation that starts this summer with summer study programs.
The Memorandum of Understanding between EKPA and Harvard University is expected to create opportunities for both shared teaching and learning as well as to foster innovative forms of applied research on refugee and migration flows. The organization of an intensive summer school for Immigration and Refugee Studies, lasting three weeks, will offer a high level of specialized knowledge and experience, in Athens, Nafplio (in collaboration with the Harvard Center for Greek Studies) and in Lesvos, through lectures, seminars and fieldwork.
It is a productive association of the communities of EKPA and the Harvard TH Chan School, in the form of collaboration of teaching staff and students on specific research topics of the Center of Excellence for Asylum and Immigration of EKPA and the Center for Health and Human Rights Harvard FXB (FXB Center for Health and Human Rights).
This collaboration is added to a series of synergies between Greek Higher Education Institutions and prominent universities in the United States, which was inaugurated by the Ministry of Education in September 2019. As of December 2019, a cooperation program of Greek Universities with 29 leading US universities is underway. . Indicatively, the National Technical University of Athens with Columbia University, the EKPA with Yale University, the Ionian University with Johns Hopkins University, the University of Piraeus with New York University, the Athens University of Economics with Indiana University, and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with Stockton University.
Minister Niki Kerameos stated: “Despite the pandemic, we promote the international cooperation of our Universities, with a firm commitment to consolidating their extroversion and claiming the position they deserve in the International Academic Charter.
