Britain: Which artist “sold” the most vinyl in the 21st century (pic + vid)

David Bowie is the best-selling vinyl record artist of the 21st century in the United Kingdom.
The late musician’s vinyl record sales in the 2000s amounted to 582,704 (as of January 6), ranking him one place above the Beatles (535,596).

As revealed by Music Week chart analyst Alan Jones, in the 2020s David Bowie is also in first place with sales of his vinyl works amounting to 134,237, followed by the Beatles with 113,613.

In the year 2021, David Bowie took third place with sales of his vinyl albums reaching 53,181. The Beatles took first place (58,567) and Taylor Swift came in second (56,917).

More recently, Bowie’s 2000 “lost” album “Toy” entered the UK Top 5 with very good physical sales.

“Toy” was released on January 7, one day before the 75th birthday of the rock singer.

The charts in the United Kingdom also include the reissue of the “Hunky Dory” album released on the occasion of its 50th anniversary at the end of 2021 and the 2016 collection “Legacy”.

Sales of vinyl records in the United Kingdom have been on the rise for 15 years. The British Phonographic Industry BPI recently reported that vinyl sales in the UK in 2021 were the highest in 30 years.

In the US, vinyl records have surpassed CD sales for the first time in decades. According to data from MRC and Billboard, 38.3% of album sales in the country last year were in vinyl format and accounted for over 50% of physical album sales (41.72 million vinyl record sales out of a total of 82.79 million ).
