He submitted his resignation to the president of the Republic of Cyprus who accepted it
His resignation to the President of the Republic of Cyprus was submitted today by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Michalis Chatzigiannis.
The well-known artist who is expected to meet with the president of Cyprus within the day Nikos Christodoulidis.
However, on Monday night he preached opening of the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama.
The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis states in his announcement that “he wishes to warmly thank Mr. Michalis Chatzigiannis, both for their lifelong friendship and for the cordial cooperation between them and his contribution during the short time he served as Deputy Minister Culture”.
At the same time, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Dr. Vassiliki (Lina) Kassianidou as the new Deputy Minister of Culture.
Vassiliki Kassianidou taught Environmental Archeology and Archaeometry at the University of Cyprus since 1994. In May 2023 she was elected Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Cyprus.
She studied Chemistry and Classical Archeology at Bryn Mawr College, USA. She continued her studies at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, London, where she received her PhD in Archaeometallurgy in 1993.
From June 2015 to September 2019 she was Director of the Archeology Research Unit. From 2014 to 2016 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus. He is a member of the National Innovation and Research Council of the Republic of Cyprus and a member of the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO. In 2022 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Archaeological Institute of America.
He has a large number of publications, including over a hundred articles in scientific journals, collective volumes and conference proceedings, the editing of five collective volumes and many others. She has participated and coordinated a number of field projects and interdisciplinary research projects related to her areas of expertise, funded by the European Union, the Research and Innovation Foundation, the A.G. Leventis Foundation, and the University of Cyprus.
She is married to Dr. Giorgos Papasavvas, Associate Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Cyprus and has two sons, Yiannis and Christoforos.
