The new heatwave has caused an alarm in the Civil Protection, which appeals to the citizens and especially to the vulnerable groups not to move around
From Friday to Sunday will be the very difficult days from the new rise in temperature that will cause heatwave conditions, with 43-44 degrees Celsius, while the mercury will start to rise from Thursday, when the winds will drop, according to with the updated Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEKF) issued today Tuesday, July 18, 2023 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY).
The new heat wave has caused an alarm in the Civil Protection, which appeals to the citizens and especially to the vulnerable groups of the population not to move around and to take self-protection measures, while from Monday the temperature is expected to drop by 2-5 degrees.
Detailed forecasts for temperatures from today are as follows:
a) today Tuesday 18-7-2023 and tomorrow Wednesday 19-7-2023 the areas that will be affected by very high temperatures will be limited to the western parts of the country, while in the east the temperatures will be lower, but also the intensity of the heat smaller, mainly because there will be “seasonal” winds (meltemia) that will reach the Aegean at 7 Beaufort.
b) on Thursday 20-7-2023 the winds will weaken and the temperature will start to rise.
Maximum temperature values ​​will reach their continental 40 to 42 and in places 43 degrees Celsiusin the Ionian islands 39 to 41 and in the Eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.
c) especially from Friday 21-7-2023 to Sunday 23-7-2023 the new heat wave will be felt throughout the country.
Maximum values ​​will reach 41 to 43 on the mainland and 44 degrees in places in the interior of Thessaly and Central Greece and 38 to 41 degrees Celsius in the island countrywhile
d) on Monday 24-7-2023 a temporary retreat of very high temperatures is expected.
The temperature is expected to drop by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, with the largest drop observed in the east of the country and the smallest in the west.

Instructions to citizens
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gov.gr) has informed the competent government agencies involved in the service, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, while, in accordance with the self-protection instructions from high temperatures, citizens are advised to:
* Stay in cool and shady places away from overcrowding, use air conditioners or fans and avoid heavy physical work in places with high temperature, apnea and high humidity.
* Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun and wear a hat and sunglasses and light-colored clothing made of fabric that allows the skin to aerate and facilitates the evaporation of sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.
* Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fats and the amount of food.
* Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcoholic beverages.
Special care is recommended for babies and young children, as well as the elderly and those with chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures
