“The battle on the front lines of the fires continues by all the Civil Protection forces, mainly in Western Attica and Rhodes and all agencies are making every possible effort in the field to contain them” the press representative of the Fire Department, deputy fire chief, Giannis Artopaios, said a while ago in an emergency briefing.
Regarding the forest fire that occurred today in Lefkohoma, Laconia, Mr. Artopioos emphasized that it is under control and that 52 firefighters, 3 groups of infantry departments, 15 water vehicles, while 4 aircraft and 2 helicopters attempted to extinguish it from the air.
At the same time, Mr. Artophios announced that in the afternoon a man was arrested in Messinia, who confessed to three different fires. “He is currently being held and tomorrow he will be taken to the prosecutor” he noted.
In addition, as the press representative of the Fire Brigade said, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, due to the extremely urgent need to deal with the risk of fires throughout the territory, due to the extreme weather conditions that are expected to prevail in the next period of time, recommended to the regions of the country to make decisions on additional bans on passage, stay and traffic in forests and forested areas where the risk of fire is in category 3, 4, or 5 .
Finally, Mr. Artophios underlined that all forces remain on alert and extreme conditions are expected to prevail tomorrow.
