Turkey and the United Arab Emirates today signed 13 bilateral agreements worth $50.7 billion during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Abu Dhabi, according to a statement issued by the Turkish presidency.
The agreements concern, among others, cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, infrastructure, trade, economy, health, tourism, real estate market, defense industry and technology.
The president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, welcomed his Turkish counterpart in Abu Dhabi, speaking of a visit that gives a “strong impetus” to the strategic choice of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations “to the fullest”.
Erdogan presented Sheikh Al Nahyan with a Turkish-made Togg electric car.
After years of strained relations, Turkey and the UAE have rewarmed ties and last March signed a free trade agreement aimed at increasing trade to $40 billion within five years.
The United Arab Emirates was the last stop on Erdogan’s three-day tour of Gulf countries, after Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in a bid by the Turkish president to secure investment to boost his country’s economy, which has been plagued by soaring inflation.
