“We do everything possible, always within the framework of our powers, so that citizens feel safe for their lives and property”
Regarding the presence and the actions of the Region in the recent Fires that hit Attica, the Regional Governor G. Patoulis points out the following in his statements:
“All of our thoughts are with the firefighters and volunteers who fight all these days to protect our lives and property. Our priority is for the process of recording the damages to proceed immediately, so that those fellow human beings who lost the efforts of an entire life in a few hours can be quickly compensated by the State.
So that the citizens of Attica know exactly what we are doing all these days as a Region, we will tell some truths today.
First truth
I, my deputy governors, the officers of the civil protection directorate and our staff, are all these days constantly on the front line of the battle, next to the staff of the Fire Service. Responsible, quiet, efficient.
Second truth
The Region of Attica from the first day that the fire season began, from May 1st,
has at its disposal as many machines and water carriers as may be needed, in order to strengthen, if requested, the work of the Fire Department. In the last three days alone, we made available 40 water carriers and 10 project machines, for this purpose.
Third truth
They accuse us of allegedly delaying the tender for the supply of the appropriate equipment for the fire fighting season and we are holding it in July.
We clarify. This tender does not in any way affect the ability of the district and the competent directorate of civil protection to have at its disposal the equipment it needs, at the time it needs it. We have all the means we need which we ensure by utilizing the process of invitation through the register of contractors, provided for emergency situations. A process that has been in place for many years.
We want the citizens of Attica to know that we are doing everything possible, always within the framework of our powers, to feel safe for their lives and property. Quietly, responsibly, efficiently. Unlike those who make a cheap opposition, “on the ashes”.
