The evacuation of the village of Laerma was announced a while ago by the mayor of Rhodes, Mr. Antonis Kambourakis, following the order of the Fire Department, as he states in his announcement.

The evacuation was decided for precautionary reasons due to the fact that a strong and uncontrolled front has developed in the wider area since the flare-ups.

As it states rodiaki.gr, the fire has reached large and dangerous proportions and is moving towards the Gadoura Dam and Laerma. As the president of the Laermon community, Mr. Anastasios Patounas, said speaking to “Rodiaki”, the fire is “running” at breakneck speed due to the strong winds of 6 to 7 Beaufort blowing in the area.

The fire is now visible even from areas of the eastern side of our island, which have been covered with thick smoke and ash.

It is noted that since it is now dark, the aerial means cannot attempt to fight the fire.

The battle of the firefighting forces continues in particularly adverse conditions and this means that we will have another difficult night for our island.
