At least two are dead from the fall of a bridge on the perimeter road of Patras, in the Bozaitika area, near a Roma settlement.
As reported by SKAI’s correspondent, Christos Stratoulakos, the Fire Department and a trained dog are working at the scene to locate trapped people as there are reports that there are other people.
Work was being done on the bridge and an excavator has also fallen at the site of the collapse.
The bridge, one of the first that one encounters from Athens to Patras, just before the city of Patras, collapsed for an as yet unknown reason.
The scene has been filled with rubble and fire brigades and ambulances have rushed to the scene.
EKAB operates with five ambulances and a Mobile Medical Unit at the scene. The University General Hospital of Patras in Rio and the General Hospital of Patras “Agios Andreas” have been put on heightened alert.
Traffic regulations
Emergency traffic regulations have been put into effect in the large perimeter of Patras, after the collapse of part of the road, in the Proastio area.
In particular, according to the police, traffic in the direction of Athens has been interrupted and the traffic of vehicles is being diverted to the junction of Eglikada.
Also, vehicular traffic has been stopped on Diodorou Street, in Patras, which is located near the section of the large perimeter road that collapsed.
