Big resurgence in Karystos – Battle to keep out of Platanistos village

A major revival is currently underway in the village of Platanistos in Karystos while the fire still rages on three fronts.

A message via 112 was sent to the residents of the Platanistos Karystos area inviting them to evacuate the settlement and head to Karystos. Specifically, the message states: “If you are in the Platanistos area, evacuate now to Karystos.” Forest fire in your area. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”

At 9.30 the three canadair aircraft were released, but alater the winds strengthened again reaching 6 Beaufort causing the fire to rekindle. The fire extends several kilometers along the mountain top, however the direction of the winds directs it further south and does not threaten the village of Platanistos.

There is a second front that threatens Livadi and Kastr settlementsDuring the night, but also this morning, an evacuation order was given. At this time, a helicopter is operating from the air.

Ground forces are operating in the area, trying to keep the fire away from the village of Platanistos.
