With the immediate intervention of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the challenge was prevented serious environmental damage from the DENVER SLOPS AEBE plant hazardous waste leak. An event, which was caused by the large fire in the wider, forest area of ​​Mandra and extended to the site of the factory’s facilities, in the Municipality of Tanagra, DE Dervenochorion, PE Viotia, the ministry emphasizes.

By decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis, measures were taken in time, which led to the pumping, 11.4 tonnes of liquid hydrocarbon fraction (acid tars), which had escaped, in liquid form, into an adjacent stream.

In particular, immediate measures to prevent the expansion of environmental damage include:

  1. The immediate cessation of the leakage of hydrocarbons (waste lubricating oils, mineral oils, tar and other hydrocarbons) of DENVER SLOPS ABEE outside its field.
  2. The collection, management and disposal of hydrocarbons (waste lubricating oils, mineral oils, tar and other hydrocarbons) that have leaked, in liquid and solid form, on and off the DENVER SLOPS ABEE site, as well as in the stream.
  3. The collection, management and disposal of soil contaminated by leaked waste.
  4. The cleaning of the slopes and bottom of the stream from the hydrocarbons (waste of lubricating oils, mineral oils, tar and other hydrocarbons) that leaked.
  5. The collection, management and disposal of hydrocarbons (waste lubricating oils, mineral oils, tar and other hydrocarbons) stored in the open and leaky tank, located within the DENVER SLOPS ABEE site.

As noted, the competent Services of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (General Directorate of the Corps of Inspectors & Controllers, SYGAPEZ) moved quickly, conducting an autopsy, on July 21 at the facilities of the DENVER SLOPS AEBE and ECORECOVERY SA factories. to the Municipality of Tanagra – Dervenochoria, in order to establish whether environmental damage has been caused, after the fire that took place in the area from July 17 to 20.

The immediate intervention of the Ministry of Environment and Energy was deemed necessary for prevention significant environmental damage and addressing the risk of rekindling the recent fire, due to the highly flammable waste.
