D. Koutsoubas at the beginning of his speech made a special reference to the devastating fires
The head of the KE of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoubasin his today’s speech in Parliament on the bill for the vote of expatriates, criticized the government’s haste to table this bill, noting characteristically:While half of Greece is burning, you in here are making crowns for the Hellenism of the diaspora…».
D. Koutsoubas at the beginning of his speech made a special reference to the devastating fires.
Speaking on the bill, he asked the question “Is the government’s haste connected with another of its haste, to promote the dangerous arrangements with Turkey and indeed under the umbrella of the USA, NATO in the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus?».
“We even heard the prime minister talking about “necessary concessions” and saying that “national sovereignty is a relative concept”. What exactly does it mean? Sovereignty means territory, territorial waters and national airspace. What is any of this relevant?” he said.
“We know that nationalism, in the murky waters of which you have “fished” many times and you and many others who have swallowed their tongue now, is “a cigarette way” from the cosmopolitanism of capital. Nationalism and cosmopolitanism are the other side of the same coin used according to the occasion. And this road is very easily traveled when various geopolitical factors, investment plans and interests demand it, fueling even more extreme nationalismhe added.
He recalled that the KKE has warned the people for a long time that the government is “working systematically to shape the terms of co-management, co-exploitation of the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean with the Turkish state, for the benefit of the energy and other groups, at the expense of course of the two peoples, with heavy consequences for the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the country”.
“You are preparing a painful, unacceptable compromise. It’s been obvious for too long…he noted addressing the government.
He described as “the most challenging of all” to “the government pretends that it is the only one that cares for the Greeks who have emigrated abroad and wants to give them a voice” and referred to the policies of all governments that “they push young people to immigrate“, adding that even the problems of Greeks abroad, such as Greek language education, were not addressed by the governments.
“Unfortunately, you see expatriates as “sluts” and nothing more. You know, we could think the same way and say that it’s to our advantage that more people vote in the overseas polls, where we got 12%. After all, the blood ties we have – also through our organizations abroad – with Greek immigrants, younger and older, of all generations are well known.he emphasized.
He noted that the difference of the KKE from the government and the other parties is that it is positioned from a position of principle and says that “those expatriates who maintain real ties with Greece, whose living conditions are similar to the living conditions of the rest of the voters, must be facilitated to vote. That they will accept – in one way or another – and the consequences of one or the other political choice for the party they will vote for”.
“That is why we proposed the specific criteria that the Parliament finally adopted in the existing law, and they are criteria similar to those that all countries with a large homogeneity, such as ours, have, for understandable reasons that are also related to sovereignty. In fact, some of what you yourself call “serious countries” have much stricter criteriahe added.
“Want to discuss even more suitable criteria? Here we are, let’s do it. But that is not your purpose. What you are going to do is a large-scale alteration of the electorate, with the facilitation and inclusion of people who have no ties to Greece, except for the emotional one which we do not question at all, which we value of course, we count on, but it is not enoughhe underlined.
He said that the government is “passing the law with the support of the fascist formation that represents the currently imprisoned for the criminal organization of H.A. Kasidiaris, another party that is concerned with irrational, nationalist, racist views, but also the Freedom Movement which also congratulated you”.
“As for PASOK, which seeks to lend an alleged “progressive alibi” to your bill, what can one say?” he reported.
D. Koutsoubas pointed out that the government’s claim that “the facility only concerns those who are already registered and can still take the plane and come to vote today” is not valid, since, as he said, “as long as the unacceptable law of blood is valid, which gives the possibility of obtaining citizenship, and therefore registration in the electoral rolls, to anyone who can prove that he had an ancestor, even a distant one, from 1900 , who was from Greece”.
He said that with the bill the government is giving an incentive “to make mass applications for the acquisition of citizenship by people who until now had not even dealt with it, nor were they even interested.”
He said that in case the vote of people, who live on the other side of the world and probably have never come to Greece, plays a decisive role in the election result “the people who might have wanted a different result will turn against the expatriates”.
“You see how you create the conditions for discord to develop between “inside” and “outside”.» he said characteristically.
He also criticized the “absolute absurdity” of the bill “to make it easier for someone who works, for example, in the USA, to vote from where he is and not for someone who works for a season in Santorini”.
He said that the KKE will do everything in its power “to prevent your propaganda from passing both inside and outside the borders”.
“Be sure that the expatriates, the migrant workers of the previous decades, their children and their grandchildren, the hundreds of thousands of young people – mainly scientists – who left in recent years, the children who are now studying abroad, have both knowledge and judgment and memory. They understand very well what you are going to do and you will not mislead them so easily with your empty emotional crowns…
We will continue to fight, in Greece and abroad, against your policy, against the barbaric system you serve and whose barbarism literally has no borders” underlined D. Koutsoubas, concluding his speech.
