MINI Electric Pacesetter: we would like it on the road |

by

Electrification has also passed in the races. After all, the Formula E World Championship with electric cars is in its 8th year, showing that the future of racing is likely to be (only) electric.

A car that we saw up close, in Athens, but that we knew for a long time, when it was the Safety Car of selected races of the 2021 – 2021 season of Formula E, the MINI Electric Pacesetter, is something special, overflowing with dynamism. The design department of MINI, collaborated with the counterpart of BMW Motorsport, resulting in the creation of a unique ensemble.

At the front, standard MINI design elements such as the round headlights and the hexagonal grille create the recognizable MINI face. At the same time, familiar features of the John Cooper Works family of models, such as the wheel arches that are adjusted to the width of the track and the deep front apron with additional front splitters, left and right, enhance the car’s sporty physiognomy. With a closed grille, as there is no internal combustion engine for cooling, but with almost square openings for cooling the brakes, it has sport side skirts, increased diameter wheels with light forged 18 ”wheels, which almost fill the domes, yellow characteristic lines and surfaces in aerodynamic aids and color contrasts that create a special ensemble.

Especially at the rear, the impressive wing mounted on the roof, is a product of 3D printing of the Oxford factory, with the diffuser giving dynamism.

In the simple and unpretentious interior, only the front seats remain. In the driver’s seat there is a certified seat with a six-point seat belt, for use in racing and on the road, carbon steering wheel with shock absorber and digital instrument panel. The center information display gives way to a carbon fiber cover for weight reduction. The center console houses the gear selector, the parking brake and the controls for the necessary warning lights – all made of bare carbon fiber. The also simple carbon fiber door panels with door and window opening mechanisms contain fabric straps for easier closing of the doors. Another key feature of the interior is the welded roll cage that maximizes safety.

It is worth noting that many components are 3D printing products.

The MINI Electric Pacesetter weighs in at about 1,230 kg, being 130 kg lighter than the electric MINI Cooper SE, which borrows the 135-kW single-speed transmission with 280 Nm of torque, resulting in the MINI Electric Pacesetter to accelerate to 0-100 km / h in 6.7 seconds (standard version: 7.3 seconds).

The drive system works with the racing suspension with adjustable coilover knees (compression, reset, height and camber angle) achieving an excellent go-kart feel.

Yes, we would like it on the road, for our daily walks, leaving the fire on the asphalt, to put it on the ground
