The activity of a baby trafficking ring in Chania with extensions throughout the country and possibly abroad is being investigated by the Organized Crime Service from Athens in collaboration with the Chania Security Sub-Directorate.

A case of infant trafficking and illegal adoptions is being investigated by the Police in Chania, which is likely to be on the verge of dismantling a long-standing ring that had spread its tentacles outside of Greece.

Sources indicate that a case has already been filed against at least one gynecologist, owner of an assisted reproduction center in Chania, while a second obstetrician is allegedly involved in the case.

The police officers of the Organized Crime Service, in collaboration with their colleagues from the Chania Security Sub-Directorate, are investigating whether cases of baby trafficking lie behind cases of egg donation and surrogacy.

They are said to have carried out checks at both IVF center facilities and homes of those allegedly involved.

Foreigners allegedly involved in the case have been brought to the Police Station for questioning, while sources say that the involvement of a lawyer and a notary public in the ring is also being considered.
