According to the Coast Guard, the Port Authority of Rhodes was informed yesterday morning, about existence of a suspicious vessel in the maritime area of ​​”LINDO” east of Rhodes, which was heading towards the area of ​​Stegnon, Rhodes.

A Coast Guard lifeboat immediately went to the area and spotted a sailing vessel, with twenty-two (22) foreigners (9 men, 6 women and 7 minors) which was heading towards the coast of Rhodes. In a subsequent audit it was found that all those on board lacked legal documentswhile in the possession of the nine (09) men – governors – traffickers, a total of nineteen (19) fake identity cards from various European countries were found.

The above sailing boat was taken to the port of Akadia Rhodes accompanied by the Lifeguard L.S.-EL.AKT. wherever and the nine (09) male foreigners were arrested.

From the Central Port Authority of Rhodes which conducts the preliminary investigation in cooperation with the Maritime Border Security & Protection Directorate (D.A.P.TH.A.S.), the sailboat and the forged documents were seized.

The D.A.P.THAS, in collaboration with the Port Authority of Rhodes, is analyzing and processing the data that has emerged and investigates the possible participation of the above arrested persons in other cases of illegal immigrant trafficking.
