“Our people have always drawn comfort and strength from the protective presence of the Virgin Mary” pointed out the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulouwho was wished a “happy birthday” by the akritic Evros, as she attended the High Priestly Divine Liturgy for the Dormition of the Virgin, which took place in the Metropolitan Church of Alexandroupoli, which was officiated by Metropolitan Anthimos.

“We celebrate with fervor the Dormition of the Virgin. And with reflection, because this summer was marked, unfortunately, by destructive fires and tragic losses. As well as one more incident of sports violencewhich led to death of a young man, a symptom of painful pathologies that are not consistent with our culture and the future we want for our children. Our people, however, always drew comfort and strength from the protective presence of the Virgin Mary. That is why we honor her, every year, as the Mother of Life. From the uncritical Evros, I wish everyone a Happy Birthday!”, said the President of the Republic.

Upon the arrival of Mrs. Sakellaropoulou at the Metropolitan Cathedral, she performed a military salute, while she was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Stavros Keletsis, MPs, the regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Christos Metios, the vice-regional governor of Evros Dimitris Petrovics and the mayor of Alexandroupolis Yiannis Zamboukis.

After the High Priestly Divine Liturgy, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou met with the metropolitan in his office.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic will visit the Joachimio Nursing Home of the Metropolis and the Sacred Women’s Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin “Our Lady of Evros”.
