.The Municipal Park of Naoussa on the European Route of Historic Gardens

The Municipal Park of Naoussa is a historical place of special importance (the Sacrifice Monument is located in the park on the site where in April 1822 the horrific event of the massacre of the Naoussa Heroes by the Turks occurred), but also a rare Monument of Landscape Architecture, with a special botanical and environmental interest, which according to the Council of Europe, is part of the Landscape Heritage of the HEREIN network.

“The object of the study we prepared for the regeneration of the municipal park of Naoussa is the protection and highlighting of the natural character, as the unique green lung of the city, but also as a work of Landscape Architecture of particular historical, ecological and aesthetic value. The park, from 2021, has officially joined the European Route of Historic Gardens of the Council of Europe, being the first park in Greece to become a member of this European network”, points out the mayor of Naoussa, Nikolas Karanikolas, noting that the aforementioned distinction “constitutes a particularly important development, as it gives the opportunity to network the municipality with the most important parks in Europe, the exchange of good practices and know-how, with the aim of sustainable development, with respect for the environment and our history”.

In addition, according to him, the inclusion of the park in the aforementioned network creates opportunities for high-level tourism, as well as the utilization of financial “tools”, with respect to its heritage and identity.
