Ceferin: “They are not fans, but a cancer of football and society”

by

The president of UEFA used harsh language, Alexander Ceferin at the meeting with the Prime Minister, regarding the issue of fan violence.

THE Mr. Ceferinon the occasion of the murder of the 29-year-old friend of AEK, Michalis Katsouri, who was murdered by Dinamo Zagreb fans in New Philadelphia, he described them as “cancer”, while he was determined to make such phenomena disappear.

What Alexander Ceferin said in detail:

“It was difficult for us to come here. And that’s because of the terrible episodes. We are all sad and angry because of all the terrible things that have happened, the senseless violence. Some use football matches for criminal acts. What kind of person attacks another person for wearing another team’s shirt?

It’s football cancer. Don’t call them fans. They are people who use football for their stupid ideas. I can’t be polite.

We agree with the Prime Minister that we must say enough is enough. It will stop. Violence and hooliganism are a problem for the whole of Europe. From Scandinavia to Portugal, to Turkey, everywhere.

We must cooperate within the European Union and I am counting on the Greek government to help us.

I am asking everyone to help us to eradicate cancer not only from football, but from society. In no way can any form of violence be supported.

Today we took a first step. We will do everything in our power to make sure that something like this never happens again. We are determined. It is not a political statement. We have been in contact with the prime minister several times since the events. We talked, we did self-criticism. We promise to do more.”
