The news has gone around the world that a prominent member of the British Museum – Peter John Higgs, the museum’s senior curator, specializing in the department related to ancient Greek treasures – was an antiquities hoarder and even sold the antiquities he stole on eBay .
When asked by a foreign journalist about the loss, theft and damage of objects from the British Museum Collections, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni said:
“It is extremely sad and particularly serious the fact, which was recently announced by the British Museum. The Ministry of Culture is following the development of the issue very carefully.”

The British Museum had announced it had launched an investigation into its security measures, saying a member of staff had been sacked and legal action was being planned against him.
Items missing from the collection include gold jewellery, pieces of glass and semi-precious stones dating back to 1500 BC. up to the 19th century AD, and occupied a “significant period of time”.
