The police arrested two foreigners, aged 28 and 36, this morning at KTEL Thessaloniki, as the two young men were smuggling cigarettes as passengers in luggage.

In particular, in the context of the utilization of information, in an audit carried out by the above executives in a warehouse of K.T.E.L. Thessaloniki, the 28-year-old was spotted waiting for a bus that had just arrived from Athens.

Afterwards, the 28-year-old informed the 36-year-old in order to collect three large travel bags and two large bags from the luggage compartment of the bus, with the assistance of another foreign accomplice who was on the bus and who escaped arrest.

A baggage check followed, where a total of 3,000 packs of cigarettes, of various brands, as well as 250 packs of tobacco with a gross weight of 12.5 kg were found, all of which had no excise tape.

Two other arrests of young foreigners, aged 20 and 17, for smuggling cigarettes with KTEL took place yesterday.

In particular, in an inspection at a warehouse of K.T.E.L. Thessaloniki, the 20-year-old was spotted getting off a bus coming from Athens. He then informed the 17-year-old, in order to collect two hand bags from the luggage compartment of the bus.

The two foreigners were found to be in possession of a total of 2,250 packs of cigarettes, of various brands, in the bags, all of which did not have excise tape.

In both cases, the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki conducts the preliminary investigation.
