The complaint that they caught gastroenteritis in a 5-star hotel in Kefalonia was made to the DailyMail by a family of British tourists, describing a heartbreaking situation of mass illness among guests at the luxury resort.

The parents and their two daughters described in the newspaper that all 4 of them gradually fell ill with vomiting and diarrhea from the second day of their stay at the hotel, while – during the days they stayed there – they also saw others residents to suffer and vomit in the dining room, pool and reception.

They also described an unacceptable picture of filth in the luxury unit – even mouse and rat droppings on the sunbeds.

A total of 35 British tourists who booked the same package through a tourist office in England have hired lawyers and are now demanding an “explanation” from the hotel.

The business response

However, the 5-star resort – responding to MailOnline – accused tourists of they brought the virus to Greece and refused to isolate themselves in their rooms, probably infecting the rest of the occupants.

A hotel spokesman told the British tabloid that the first cases appeared on July 14 – “one day after we had new arrivals mainly from the UK”.

As he said, they later found out at the hotel that in Britain there has been an outbreak of norovirus since Marchwhich is the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis.

“Travellers brought us this virus. As we are a large resort with many restaurants, the virus spread very quickly,” he explained.

Indeed, as he pointed out, the business asked guests who were ill to stay in their roomsbut “many didn’t listen and actually decided to go to the pools.”
