Reports of a dead person in Lefkimmi – Hell in Alexandroupoli
A major operation is underway, coordinated by the health authorities, to evacuate the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis as the flames from the large fire that broke out earlier today at noon in Dadia of Evros are threateningly approaching.
As Evros Deputy Governor Dimitris Petrovich told skai.gr, the fire from Dadia in a few hours traveled a distance of about 40 kilometers and came to join the big fire that has been burning for days in Alexandroupolis.
The hospital, as noted by Mr. Petrovich, is located at Dragoni, near Egnatia Odos and the settlement of Nea Chili.
At the same time, a large operation is underway with machinery and means of the Region to create fire zones to protect the hospital.
The patients will be transferred to health units in neighboring areas.
According to information, Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleous is rushing to Alexandroupoli.
All night battle with the fiery nightmare in Boeotia, Alexandroupoli, Dadia, Evia, Kavala and Rhodope are given by the fire brigade.
In Alexandroupoli the most difficult front is raging, specifically in the areas north of the settlement of Nipsa and in the settlements of Doriskos and Monastiraki. The fire broke out in the early morning hours of August 19, 2023 in the area of Melia Alexandroupolis.
The authorities proceeded to evacuate the settlement of Aisymi as well. At 5:50 a message was sent from 112 to the residents of the area to head towards Alexandroupoli due to the forest fire that is ongoing in the area of Alexandroupoli. In total 14 settlements have been evacuated for the safety of citizens.
At the same time, with a message from 112, residents were asked to stay indoors and close doors and windows due to the smoke that is moving into the area.

214 firefighters with 11 groups of pedestrian departments and 59 vehicles are working on the forest fire, while periodically 10 aircraft and 7 helicopters are working on the forest fire. Support is provided by the forces of the Hellenic Army, volunteer firefighters, as well as water tankers and work machines of the army and the OTAs.
