10 km fire front – Strong winds make the situation difficult

The front of the two fires on the coast of Boeotia exceeds 10 kmin the Corinthian Gulf.

Yes, the first front, which started yesterday morning from Hostia and the second which started yesterday afternoon from Tarsus, helped by the strong winds, have taken such a direction as to unite.

In the area remain the strong winds and gusts they create new fronts, making it very difficult for ground and air forces to control the extent of the fire.

The consolation is that where the flames pass there are no settlements and residential areas, however, such areas exist towards the sea, where the ground forces have carved out a last zone of defense.

What particularly worries local residents is the possibility that the flames, aided by strong winds, to take a course towards Helikon and Arvanitsawhere there is a rare forest, but also settlements.

Strong ground forces have been moved to the areabut the relief does not allow them to advance and approach the flames.

Also, in the area where the fire broke out flare-ups are particularly largein olive groves and pine forest area and at times create fronts which move menacingly in a completely different direction.

According to the mayor of Livadia John Tagalegawho spoke to APE-MPE, “The situation remains dire. The flare-ups together with the strong winds leave no room for optimism. We are fighting on all fronts, but unfortunately the strong winds do not allow us to stop the destruction.”

A while ago, the General Police Directorate of Central Greece announced that the traffic stream towards Prodromos and Sarantiu beach where traffic was interrupted, fully restored, after the danger has been removed from the area.
