For the second day, the forces of the Fire Service continue to fight to bring under control the fire that is burning forest areas on two fronts in Rodopi, in Ano Drosini and in Mischos Iasmou.

In Ano Drosini, 15 firefighters with 7 vehicles operate and in Mischos 24 firefighters with 9 vehicles, while the extinguishing work is assisted by five aircraft.

The municipal unit of Sosti of the municipality of Iasmos, in which houses have also burned, was declared in a state of emergency of Civil Protection.

Tomorrow, two teams of the Northern Greece Natural Disaster Recovery Directorate of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will visit the fire-stricken areas of Rhodopi, and they will have a meeting with the deputy governor of Rhodopi, Nikos Tsalikidis, and the mayor of Iasmos, Moomin Moomin.

Mr. Tsalikidis stated to APE-MPE that in Gratini of the municipality of Komotini, where a precautionary evacuation was decided, the fire has been extinguished, however those who have left will not return to the village today. He estimated that, so far, the front in the municipality of Iasmos is not dangerous.

The municipality of Komotini announced that 20 kidney patients from Alexandroupolis who were transferred to Komotini for dialysis and are unable to return because Egnatia Odos is closed, will be accommodated at the Multifunctional Center of the Municipality of Komotini, where they will receive medical care from a nephrologist and nurses.

Residents in Petrotas, Agios Charalambos, Maronia, Asketis, Kangeles, Platanitis, Nea and Palaia Krovyli in Rodopi are asked to be ready with a new message sent by 112 warning of a forest fire in progress in the area.

Earlier, however, it was announced that the situation in the Rhodopes was better than the fires that broke out yesterday afternoon in a forest area in the area of ​​Mischos and in Ano Drosini in the Rhodopes.

“Today things are a bit more optimistic, there is a relative control of the fires, despite the strong winds that continue to blow in the area,” Rodopis deputy governor, Nikos Tsalikidis, told APE-MPE.

He noted, however, that “yesterday will be etched in our minds, since more than 10 houses were burned in Sosti, Polyanthos and Linos, crops were destroyed, animals were burned and there were injuries.”

Regarding the extinguishing operation, he estimated that “at least property and human lives are no longer at risk, since the fire fronts have gone up towards the mountain” and added that “volunteers, people from the primary sector and the local government” are on foot.

It is recalled that yesterday “112” messages were sent to the residents of six areas to evacuate, namely in Mischos, Ano Drosini, Linos, Mega Pisto, Sosti and Polyanthos.
