The news is circulating on the internet that – at a time when all of Greece is on fire – a couple in Chios had the… brilliant idea to use flying lanterns – balloons – at their wedding party, apparently to give an extra romantic note to the happy event.

The incident happened yesterday in the bay of Lo, in Vrontados of Chios with the danger due to the direction of the wind, the lanterns with the flammable material drifting to Aipos, an area with low vegetation and in places dense (islands of pine trees).

According to the local website astraparis.gr, the Chios fire department intervened and imposed the prescribed administrative fine, unknown to the bride or the groom.

By the way it is noted that their use is prohibited, while the use of sparklers at weddings and other events is permitted under conditions and after the granting of a relevant license from the fire department.
