The Parnitha fire is currently in remission after the all-day battle fought by the fire brigade.

According to information from the Civil Protection Operations Center and from the heads of the forces operating in the field, the flames did not reach the core of the National Forest.

Until darkness fell, helicopters were continuously operating on the front of the fire, while as you can see in the video, at the tail of the fire, 7 Air Tractors firefighting aircraft made one after the other drops of retardant liquid from the side of Aspropyrgos, Menidi and Dervenochorion.

The efforts of the firefighters who are working and will continue to work throughout the night are focused on extinguishing the local centers of the fire, the so-called “sparklights” and ensuring that there are no further flare-ups.

Along with the use of excavators, the preventive opening of new fire protection zones will continue, in continuation of those that already existed since the beginning of the fire protection season.

The Fire Department forces will continue to fight on all fronts without interruption, as he affirmatively pointed out the press representative of the Fire Department, Yiannis Artophios.

According to Mr. Artopioros, the fire that broke out yesterday in Phyli has affected areas south of Parnitha.

As the fiery blaze spread to Parnitha threatening the National Park as well as populated areas in Menidi, Attica is experiencing dramatic moments for another twenty-four hours.

The basin has been enveloped in clouds of smoke while the eerie scenery is completed by the suffocating atmosphere and the smell of burning in almost every neighborhood of Athens.

The forest fire of Parnitha, showed explosive spread and extreme behavior earlier in the afternoon of Wednesday 23.08.2023

In particular, according to meteo, this happened when the fire entered the base of a ravine with dense vegetation on the slopes. This initially led to an increase in the pyrothermal load, with the hot gases produced during combustion being driven towards the top of the ravine, thereby heating the unburned forest fuels and creating an inductive, very strong updraft (towards the top of the ravine ), which “pulled” the fire up to the top of the ravine in an explosive manner

The dynamics of the nuclear fronts in Attica is also captured by a related video that captures the rapid development of the fire in Parnitha, within half an hour, today at noon.

While the flames until 13:00 were burning on the hill to the left, in the area of the Kapota camp and Agia Paraskevi Menidi, within 10 minutes the fire spread and moved to the opposite hill passing over the ravine without burning anything in between .

In the next 10 minutes the fire spread with dizzying speed from the point of the spot to the top of the mountain, above the casino of Parnitha.

And all this, while the aerial means of the PS, as can be seen in the video, made continuous drops of water over the flames (only some of the drops are indicated in circles in the video).

Without exaggeration, the country is in the midst of an unprecedented test since in total the fire brigades are dealing with 99 agroforestry fires throughout the territory, of which 55 occurred in the last 24 hours.

Evia is in flames again

Two different fire outbreaks occurred this afternoon at a distance of about 200 meters from each other, in the Dokos area, northeast of the city of Chalkida.

They operate strong ground and air forces with the assistance of volunteers and water carriers of the Local Government.

The fire in Yiliki in Boeotia is under control and the fire in Moschopodi in Thebes is contained, according to the information provided by the Fire Department.

At the same time, as he pointed out, according to the data available so far, 140 people have been arrested for arson in agro-forestry areas as part of the spontaneous procedure.

Specifically 117 for negligence and 23 for intent. Almost all of the above incidents are related to hot or agricultural work.

In addition, Mr. Artophios pointed out that the risk of fire tomorrow is predicted to be very high in Boeotia, Evia and Attica, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map.

“We remain on guard and continue the battle uninterruptedly on all fronts,” he concluded.
