Selena Quintanilla’s killer is at risk of life: ‘there is a bounty on her head’

Yolanda Saldívar, the killer of Selena Quintanilla, was sentenced to life in prison, but she can earn the right to parole in 2025, when the crime completes 30 years. Even within the maximum security jail, her life could be seriously at risk.

On March 31, 1995, the singer confronted Saldívar — at the time, he was the manager of his stores and was the founder of one of his fan clubs — because he believed that she was embezzling money. The partner shot Selena in the back and she passed away in a hospital due to blood loss.

According to The Messenger portal, there are several people willing to murder Yolanda in revenge. “There is a bounty on her head,” said a relative of the detainee.

At Mountain View, a maximum security women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas, the guards must lead Saldívar through the halls. “She is looked down upon,” says one former prisoner. “Everybody’s out to get her. She’s the most hated person in Mountain View.”

Prisoner Yesenia Dominguez says Saldívar is a frequent topic of conversation among the inmates: “They’re all always saying ‘let me have five minutes with that p…'”. “Everyone wants justice for Selena,” she added.

Yolanda was convicted of the first-degree murder of the Mexican singer, who was crowned “Queen of Tejano” (musical style also known as Tex-Mex) by fans.

In a 2018 interview, Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, said he receives letters from inmates promising to kill his daughter’s killer: “They are going to kill her. There are bad women there. Women who have killed other people in the past. That’s why they are there. They have nothing to lose”.
