A glimmer of optimism for the fire that has been burning for the third day in Parnitha, one of the few remaining green lungs for the capital.

According to what the representative of the Fire Department, Giannis Artopioos, said, the picture on the front of the fire is better, but there is no room for complacency. He explained that at the moment the situation is improved, however he cannot yet express optimism as north-easterly winds are expected which may cause problems.

The president of the Acharnon municipal council Themis Economou speaking to SKAI, he clarified that the Thracian Macedonians are not in danger. He said that according to the first estimates in the municipality of Acharnon they have made 10 to 15 houses.

The residents of Thrakomakedon remain on alert after the message that reached their mobile phones from 112 during the night calling them to be ready to leave their homes.

Some have already left the area, as journalist G. Kousoulas reported early in the morning while speaking to SKAI.

Mr. Kousoulas mentioned that after the warning 112, the police went door to door and called the residents to leave.

The firefighters fought all night with the flare-ups on the borders of the Parnitha national park. During the night, the fire was in remission, but a new large flare-up occurred shortly after 4 am, above the settlement of Agia Paraskevi.

A message was sent via 112 to evacuate the settlements Saint Nicholas and Saint Paraskevi.

“The fire is currently between the houses located at the foot of Mount Parnithos and up to Parnithos Avenue, but towards the part of the mountain,” the representative of the Fire Department told SKAI early in the morning. John Baker.

Mr. Artophios said that the main front of business is currently on the streets Lobster, Idomeneos and Ceramic.

260 firefighters with 13 groups of infantry departments, 77 vehicles are operating at the scene, while at the first light of the day, 6 aircraft and 7 helicopters started spraying water.

At the same time, strong forces of volunteer firefighters with pedestrian units, forces that have been made available by the General Staff of National Defense and the Hellenic Police, as well as water tankers and work machines of the Attica Region, are operating.

According to information, a firefighter while trying to extinguish the fire at night, was injured in the leg and had to be taken by an ambulance of the EKAV.

Due to the fire, the Police has stopped the traffic of vehicles on the following roads:

-At Parnithos Avenue and Boskiza Street,

-On Filias ton Laon street to Camps

-On Konstantinou Karamanli Avenue from Thrakomakedonon Street

-On Parnithos Street from Thrakomakedonon Street

-On Kymi avenue from the height of the Kalyftaki bridge in the traffic flow towards Olympiakos Chorio

-On Kymi Avenue from Antiochou Street in the direction of Thrakomakedones

-On Thrakomakedonon Street from the height of Boskiza Street

During yesterday’s day, houses in Agia Paraskevi Menidiou and Agios Ioannis Rossos Acharnon were given over to the flames.
