A total of 69 new forest fires broke out in the last twenty-four hours, while the fire forces are dealing with 104 fires across the territory, according to an update from the fire service.

As stated in the relevant announcement, “most of them were dealt with immediately, at their initial stage”.

Specifically according to the Fire Department:

– In Parnitha, strong forces are operating and facing flare-ups, mainly on its south-western side, near the Fort of Phyli and the Stream of Giannoula.

– In Evros and Rhodope, most flare-ups have occurred in Dadia, Aisymi and Soufli.

– In Viotia, the flare-ups are more intense in the area of ​​Vaia of Illiki, further east of the area of ​​Zaltsa, as well as in the areas of Steiri and Kyriaki.

Strong ground and air forces, with the assistance of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, a large number of volunteer firefighters, forces deployed by the General Staff of National Defense and the Hellenic Police, as well as water tankers and work machines from the Regions, are working on all the fires.

The local investigative offices, as well as units of the Arson Crimes Directorate (D.A.E.E.), are investigating the causes of the fires.

Fire Service personnel throughout the Territory remain on general alert to deal with the increased service demands that have arisen due to the large number of fires, as well as the very high risk of fire (risk category 4), while aerial surveillance patrols continue, as and patrols by fire, police and military forces.
