Among the scenes that moved us in the last few days is undoubtedly hers old woman in Acharnes which the police rushed to remove before the fire reached her home and she insisted on offering them a coffee to thank them. Now that the fire danger was gone, the cops visited her again and didn’t spoil it by drinking the coffee she wanted to kiss them.

On the night of August 23rd, the fire moved menacingly through the houses located on the outskirts of Mount Parnitha. A message from 112 sounded for evacuation, but some people did not have the strength to leave their homes.

Police officers go door to door and arrive at Mrs. Tula’s house and the following dialogue follows:

Police officer
From B7-3 I have freed the lady and she is recognized.
Let’s go, Mr. Tula.
Take it easy, I don’t want you to rush me.

Resident Tribe
Hey guys, come to my house and let me make you a cup of coffee

Police officer
We don’t want coffee, we want to take you somewhere safe. Take it easy, don’t rush me.

resident Tribe
Don’t fall…

Police officer
Wait Mr. Toula. You won’t fall, you won’t go anywhere, here, we’re watching over you.

resident Tribe
Opa.

Police officer
Opa. Open the door for Ms. Tula to bring her in. Do you want us to give you a little water?

Three days later, the police-saviours, visit Mrs. Toula:

Police officer
Good evening Mr. Toula. What are you doing, how are you?

Resident Tribe
Good morning, what should we do? Did you bring me?

Police officer
Yes, yes, we were.

Resident Tribe

I see it on TV, bad luck. I saw you come, you were in the fire and you were burning, I was making you a coffee to drink and I hear it on TV (laughs). I felt sorry for you. I say sit down and let me make a coffee for you to drink, you are in the fire and you got burned. I’m sorry my boy. I see you over there and I feel sorry for all the children. Into the fire you burned and run.

Journalist
You thought they came to hang out here, to hang out with you.

Resident Tribe
Yes Yes

Police officer
Mrs. Tula, you didn’t see smoke, you didn’t see things like that, when the children came
didn’t they tell you? You didn’t see fire.

Resident Tribe
No, my boy. Because I can’t see well. I have lost my light, my hearing.

“As we were in the wider area, we received a signal from our center to come to that particular spot because there was an old woman. We came to the scene with someone related to her, we entered the house, we realized that the lady was not aware of the whole situation, we tried to enter the house, we realized that she actually opened the door for us”, said the police officer, Nikitas Panoutsos.

“Mrs. Toula was very pleasant and inside the patrol car she had her potty. All the people in all the areas affected by the fires see positively the help of the police. “Too many colleagues have freed either people or four-legged animals at the cost of their lives, and this is what we did for Ms. Tula,” noted police officer Dimitris Lymberis.

Mrs. Toula’s wish finally came true. The two policemen sat down at her kitchen table and drank the coffee she was so eager to offer them as a token of gratitude.
