The Holy Monastery of Saint Luke – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – was in danger of burning down in the great fire a few days ago
Last week, in a big fire that broke out in Distomo, Boeotia, the Holy Monastery of Saint Luke – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – was in serious danger as the flames entered the monastery’s enclosure.
Today, the damage has been repaired and pilgrims and visitors can once again visit the facilities of the Holy Monastery.
As of yesterday, all areas have been perfectly cleaned and the electricity has been restored. However, a team of firefighters remains at the monastery for safety reasons.
Today many visitors visited the monastery, but unfortunately they could not admire the wonderful view towards the olive grove of Laka and Helikon. “Your soul is blackened from the burnt…” declared the Abbot of the Byzantine Monastery Father Seraphim.
All the premises of I. M are visitable and safe except for the section in front of the semi-destroyed building which was the cell of the late Abbot Papa-Ioasaf.
According to the information, all four walls are in good condition and can be easily restored/restored after a study.
